Adebanjo Criticizes Akpabio's Electoral Act Amendments, Warns Against Threats to Democracy

Adewole Adebanjo, a former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), criticized Senator Godswill Akpabio's proposed amendments to the Electoral Act, accusing him of actions that could threaten democracy. He warned against allowing external influences, metaphorically referring to them as the "devil," to impact decision-making in electoral conduct. Adebanjo emphasized the importance of respecting democratic principles and the equal branches of government, citing past leaders like Nnamdi Azikiwe, Joseph Waya, and Chuba Okadigbo who upheld the integrity of their positions.

He urged the Senate President to prioritize national interests over personal or external influences, likening the Senate President's responsibilities to those of the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
