National Grid Collapse Causes Nationwide Power Outage

Nigeria experienced a nationwide power outage as the National grid collapsed, leading to Distribution Companies (DisCos) having less than 200 megawatts to allocate to customers. The collapse resulted in a significant drop in the distribution load profile, affecting major cities like Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.

Electricity companies, including the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED), took to social media to explain the outage and assure customers of restoration efforts. The government's plan to implement a new electricity consumption model was also announced, aiming to enhance revenue allocation to subnational governments in the first half of the year.
