COMEN Advocates Health Insurance Enrollment for Anambra Residents

The Community Empowerment Network (COMEN) urged residents of Anambra State to enroll in health insurance schemes to alleviate the financial burden of medical treatment. This call was made during a health awareness outreach at St. Peter’s Catholic Parish in Urum, Awka North Local Government Area.

Albert Chinwuko, the Secretary of COMEN in Anambra State, emphasized that health insurance provides families with financial protection during medical emergencies and costly treatments. He illustrated the benefits with personal anecdotes, including a case where his son’s wife delivered twins, resulting in a total hospital bill of ₦280,000, but the family only paid ₦25,000 due to health insurance coverage.

He also mentioned a woman who required an emergency operation costing ₦380,000, which was fully covered by her health insurance, with the family only spending ₦80,000 on drugs. Chinwuko stressed that health insurance allows families to manage healthcare costs more effectively.
