Emefiele Trial Delayed as Key Witness Fails to Appear

The trial of former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele has encountered a significant setback as key witness Jim Obaze has failed to appear in court, raising concerns about delays in this high-profile case. The trial is currently taking place at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, where the prosecution has already faced mounting pressure due to repeated adjournments.

Obaze, who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu for a special investigation, is expected to play a crucial role in the case concerning allegations of a 6.23 million naira discrepancy linked to the Central Bank of Nigeria's operations in Abuja. The absence of Obaze has led to speculation that the prosecution may seek further adjournments, which has drawn criticism regarding the trial's timeline.

Justice Hamza Muazu had previously warned against unnecessary postponements. Although the prosecution initially considered presenting a police officer as an alternative witness, this plan was later abandoned.

Sources indicate that Obaze is not unwilling to testify and that the EFCC is in contact with him, ready to appear once formally invited through the proper legal process.
