Witnesses Summoned in Emefiele's $6.23M Fraud Trial

Jim Obazee, a former executive of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), and Eloho Okpoziakpo, a commissioner of police, have been summoned to testify in the ongoing trial of Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The trial, presided over by Justice Hamza Muazu at the High Court in Abuja, involves 20 counts of fraud against Emefiele, amounting to $6.23 million.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Emefiele for charges that include criminal breach of trust, forgery, abuse of office, and conspiracy to obtain false pretenses. The court has set the subpoena date for April 27, 2026, with both witnesses required to appear on April 28, 2026, at 9:00 AM.

The testimonies of Obazee and Okpoziakpo are deemed vital for establishing the fraud allegations against Emefiele.
