Engineers Urge Swift Action on Ogun Power Reform Law

The Ogun State branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has expressed concerns regarding potential delays in the implementation of the Ogun State Electricity Reform Law. In a statement issued by branch chairman Olumayowa Idowu on Wednesday, the NSE commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for inaugurating a 15-member administrative team for the Ogun State Electricity Regulatory Commission, describing it as a significant step towards operationalizing the electricity law (Bill No. 017 of 2024).

Idowu emphasized the urgency of implementing the law, referencing a letter sent to the governor on March 13, 2025, urging the government to fast-track the establishment of the electricity framework. The NSE highlighted that delays could create gaps in regulatory oversight, potentially affecting consumer protection and tariff regulation.

The transition of regulatory authority to the state electricity commission is mandated to begin on December 24, 2024, with completion expected by June 23, 2025. The NSE called for prioritization of professional leadership in the new regulatory framework to ensure technical competence and regulatory efficiency.
