English club terminates contract of Super Eagles player

Barnsley FC has terminated the contract of Super Eagles midfielder Kelechi Nwakali due to a lack of discipline. The club's boss, Conor Hourihane, confirmed that Nwakali is free to leave before the transfer window closes.

Nwakali was dropped from the recent matchday squad after returning late from holiday and was previously suspended for punching an opponent. The delay in his resumption was reportedly due to a family matter, which ultimately led to his dismissal from the English club.

This is not the first time Nwakali has faced disciplinary issues, as he was also sacked by Spanish club Huesca for a similar offense. The former U17 World Cup Golden Ball winner's brother, Chidiebere Nwakali, was also sacked by Kalmar FF for a similar offense.

Nwakali's contract termination comes after a series of disciplinary incidents, including returning late from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
