Enugu State Invests N22.5 Billion in Tourism Development

Enugu State is taking significant steps to realize its tourism projections, with Governor Peter Mbah emphasizing tourism as a major economic contributor. The state has allocated N22.5 billion in its 2026 budget to develop tourism infrastructure.

Mbah is positioning himself as the chief marketer of Enugu's tourism potential, seeking investments during a recent visit to the United Kingdom alongside President Bola Tinubu. The state aims to attract two million visitors annually, leveraging its natural landscapes, including lakes and waterfalls.

Specific allocations include N5 billion for lake restoration, N4 billion for a conference center, and N3 billion for a water amusement park. Additionally, N2.5 billion is earmarked for a tourist film park, and N3 billion for upgrading the Enugu State Museum.

The ongoing development includes revitalizing long-abandoned recreational parks and upgrading the ICC Hotel to a five-star status, which is currently 80% complete.
