Enzo Fernandez Joins Manchester City for £125 Million

Enzo Fernandez has officially joined Manchester City on a permanent basis from Chelsea for a British record fee of £125 million, matching the fee Liverpool paid Newcastle United for Alexander Isak. The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner arrives at the Etihad Stadium after spending three-and-a-half seasons at Stamford Bridge.

He will wear the number 17 shirt at City, a choice he described as deeply personal, as it carries significant weight in the club's history, having been worn by Kevin De Bruyne during his decade at the club. Fernandez's preferred numbers, 5 and 8, were already assigned to other players.

Previously, at Chelsea, he wore number 5, which belonged to club legend Jorginho, and number 8, associated with Frank Lampard. Fernandez's move to City follows his establishment as one of Europe's most dynamic central midfielders, and he will reunite with manager Enzo Maresca, who previously managed him at Chelsea.
