Arteta made this statement ahead of Arsenal's season opener against Manchester United, but Nicol pointed out that Manchester City actually accumulated more points than Arsenal during that period.

Nicol accused Arteta of trying to sound clever and called his claim "daft." The former City assistant coach has been at Arsenal for five seasons without winning a major trophy, with the team's last triumph being the Community Shield and FA Cup. Nicol suggested that Arteta needs to focus on delivering results rather than making inaccurate statements.
