Liverpool FC Targets Andoni Iraola as New Head Coach

Liverpool FC is set to open formal talks with Andoni Iraola to become the club's new head coach after the departure of Arnold Slot. Slot guided Liverpool to a Premier League title but was dismissed following a disappointing season where the club finished with 60 points, the lowest since the 2015-16 season, and 25 points behind champions Arsenal.

Iraola, a 43-year-old Spaniard, enjoyed a successful spell at Bournemouth, leading the club to its highest-ever Premier League finish, ending the season in sixth place and securing qualification for the next season's Europa League, just three points behind Liverpool. Liverpool's hierarchy is keen to appoint a successor quickly, with Iraola emerging as the leading candidate.

Other candidates include Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness and Lens boss Pierre Sage. Despite qualifying for the next season's Champions League, Liverpool's decision to dismiss Slot was reportedly driven by a desire for a more aggressive, high-intensity style of football, which aligns with the vision of the club's sporting director, Richard Hughes, who previously worked with Iraola at Bournemouth.
