Nigerian Coach Eric Chelle Draws European Club Interest Amid Super Eagles Role

Eric Chelle, the head coach of the Nigerian national football team, is reportedly being linked to a top European club following Nigeria's unsuccessful 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign under former coach Jose Peseiro. Chelle, who guided Nigeria to a bronze medal in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, has attracted interest despite missing out on a World Cup spot.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) president, Ibrahim Gusau, has expressed patience with Chelle, giving him 12 months to make a decision on his future. Chelle's potential move comes after Olympique de Marseille sacked their coach, Roberto De Zerbi, following a heavy defeat.

Chelle, who has also managed lower-tier clubs in France, Mali, and Ivory Coast, has aspirations of becoming the first African coach to lead a Spanish La Liga team.
