Eritrea Appoints Hashim Yakin as New National Coach

The Eritrean National Football Federation has officially appointed Egyptian tactician Hashim Yakin as the new head coach of the Eritrean national football team. This appointment comes as part of Eritrea's strategy to strengthen its team in preparation for the preliminary round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Yakin's hiring marks a significant milestone, as he becomes the first foreign coach to lead the national team in 18 years and the second non-Eritrean African to manage the side, following Mushir Osman, who was in charge from 1998 to 1999. Eritrea is scheduled to face the Eswatini national football team in the preliminary round, with the winner advancing to the group stage in the race for a place in the 2027 AFCON.
