Haaland Welcomes Fernandez After £125m Transfer to City

Erling Haaland sent a message to Enzo Fernandez after Manchester City completed the signing of Fernandez from Chelsea for £125 million on Deadline Day. This transfer matches the joint-British transfer record set when Alexander Isak was signed from Newcastle a year prior.

Fernandez has signed a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, reuniting with manager Enzo Maresca, who previously worked with him at Chelsea. Chelsea will make an £18 million profit on Fernandez, having purchased him for £107 million three-and-a-half years ago.

Despite Fernandez expressing a desire to leave months before the transfer window closed, Chelsea held out for a satisfactory offer. Haaland welcomed Fernandez on social media, referencing a previous incident where he accused Fernandez of stamping on him during a match.

Fernandez's addition enhances City's midfield as they aim for their first league title in three years, having lost the championship to Liverpool in the 2024/25 season and Arsenal last season.
