Even INEC Chairman’s Son Can’t Stop Tinubu in 2027 – APC

The APC Progressives Congress has declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the secure candidate for the 2027 elections, regardless of who becomes the next chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The party's National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, stated in an interview with Sun that the ruling party is concerned about the identity of the new electoral umpire, as the tenure of the current INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, is expected to expire this year.

Basiru dismissed suggestions that the APC might seek to influence the process of selecting the new chairman, emphasizing that the party's role is to recommend a referee, not to be the referee itself. He maintained that the party's strength lies in its ability to mobilize voters, and that even with a new INEC chairman, President Tinubu would still be able to win the election.
