Adoke Welcomes OPL 245 Settlement, Demands Apology

Mohammed Bello Adoke, the former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, expressed his approval of the recent settlement concerning the OPL 245 oil prospect license, labeling it a long-overdue vindication of actions taken during Goodluck Jonathan's administration. In a statement shared on Punch Online, Adoke praised the federal government of Nigeria for implementing the agreement reached nearly 15 years ago to resolve the contentious oil block dispute.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for concluding the process, emphasizing that it reflects strong leadership and an understanding of the economy. However, Adoke criticized the previous administration under Muhammadu Buhari for undermining earlier efforts to resolve the dispute, accusing it of scandalous actions that hindered national interests.

He also called for an unreserved apology from the government for the humiliation he faced during the legal battles surrounding the oil block. The settlement is expected to pave the way for fresh investments in Nigeria's oil sector.
