Ex-DSS Officer Claims Abacha Died During Intimate Encounter

Dennis Amachree, a retired Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), has claimed in his memoir, "DSS @40: My Journey Behind the Shield," that former military Head of State Gen. Sani Abacha died from a cardiac arrest during an intimate encounter at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Amachree states that this incident occurred at approximately 4:05 a.m. on June 8, 1998, when Abacha was 54 years old. The woman involved, a pharmacist, allegedly confessed during an interrogation that Abacha died while they were together, stating, “I did not kill him, he died on top of me.” Following the incident, the woman reportedly fled the villa in panic and traveled to Lagos before being interrogated by Amachree.

He dismissed various conspiracy theories surrounding Abacha's death, asserting that the pharmacist's account is the most credible explanation. Amachree also criticized narratives from several prominent figures regarding the circumstances of Abacha's death, emphasizing the need for factual clarity over speculation.
