Ex-Edo Rep Demands EFCC Reopen Atiku Corruption Case

Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, a former member of the House of Representatives representing Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to reopen and prosecute former Vice President Alhaji Abubakar Atiku for alleged corruption. Agbonayinma issued a 14-day ultimatum, threatening legal action if the EFCC does not act.

He referenced a 2006 EFCC report that investigated Atiku for "grand corrupt practices," which included allegations of money laundering and other financial crimes. The report, which was released after Atiku's term as Vice President, indicated that the EFCC intended to prosecute him once he left office due to constitutional immunity.

Agbonayinma criticized the EFCC for its failure to pursue the case, stating that this inaction has caused embarrassment to Nigeria. He commended the EFCC's efforts in other corruption cases but emphasized that the lack of action against Atiku undermines the agency's credibility in fighting corruption among high-profile individuals.
