Former Lawmaker Demands EFCC Action Against Atiku

Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, a former member of the House of Representatives, has formally urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to reopen and prosecute financial crime allegations against Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Agbonayinma's legal representative, Hannibal Uwaifo of Sagitarian Law Firm, submitted a letter dated August 27 and received by the EFCC on September 1, demanding action within 14 days.

The request references a September 2006 EFCC report and a February 4, 2010, Senate report, both alleging serious financial misconduct by Atiku during his tenure as vice-president. The letter claims the EFCC previously indicated intentions to prosecute Atiku after he left office but failed to do so, which Agbonayinma's team describes as a violation of the law governing the commission.

If the EFCC does not act within the specified timeframe, Agbonayinma has authorized Uwaifo to initiate legal proceedings against the commission.
