Onamusi Onadeko Appeals Conviction in ICPC Case

Onamusi Onadeko, a former lawmaker, has filed an appeal against his conviction for making inconsistent statements to investigators. This follows a judgment delivered on July 30 by Justice Chizoba Oji at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, where Onadeko was found guilty on one count and sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment or a N50,000 fine.

He was acquitted on ten other counts related to alleged corruption and diversion of public funds. Onadeko's legal team, led by Wahab Olatoye, stated they are studying the judgment and intend to challenge the conviction.

The trial, initiated by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), lasted eight years, with the court finding that the prosecution failed to substantiate the corruption allegations. The ICPC's spokesman, John Odey, confirmed the court's findings regarding Onadeko's guilt on the 11th count and his acquittal on the other ten counts.
