Ex-Militants Threaten Oil Shutdown Over Amnesty Program Exclusion

Former militants from the Niger Delta region are threatening to shut down oil facilities across the area due to their exclusion from the presidential amnesty program. They accuse the federal government of marginalization, lack of transparency, and unfair treatment in the program.

Leaders of the first phase of the program, including President Bola Tinubu and Dr. Denni Otuaro, are being accused of sidelining certain groups in favor of others.

The militants are demanding a forensic audit of the program and transparency in its operations. They argue that since embracing peace in 2009 and surrendering arms, they have been denied fair treatment, with their monthly stipends remaining unchanged since 2009.

The group has notified the police of their intent to protest in Abuja and potentially shut down oil facilities if their grievances are not addressed.
