Adeyanju Warns Against Cancelling Niger Delta Oil Contract

Human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has expressed alarm over the pressure being exerted on the Federal Government to cancel a significant pipeline surveillance contract in the Niger Delta. In a statement, Adeyanju claimed that individuals are compelling the government to terminate the contract, which is linked to former militant leader Ekpemupolo, commonly known as Tompolo.

This contract is intended to enhance security around oil pipelines and reduce oil theft and vandalism in the region. Critics of the contract argue that it is politically motivated and may increase the influence of former militant groups.

However, Adeyanju dismissed these concerns, stating that the contract has already delivered clear results in protecting Nigeria's oil facilities. He called for an investigation into the motivations behind the push to cancel the contract and warned that scrapping it could weaken efforts to safeguard the pipelines and allow illegal oil activities to resurge in the Niger Delta.
