Diezani Alison-Madueke Speaks After Bribery Acquittal

Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former Minister of Petroleum Resources under President Goodluck Jonathan from 2010 to 2015, publicly addressed her acquittal on bribery charges following a lengthy legal battle. In an interview with the BBC, she described the emotional toll and damage to her reputation caused by the investigation led by the UK National Crime Agency (NCA).

Alison-Madueke faced accusations of receiving luxurious benefits from oil businessmen linked to government contracts, including expensive items and properties. She maintained her innocence throughout the trial, asserting that she was wrongfully targeted.

Alison-Madueke raised concerns about missing documents that could have supported her defense, which were allegedly taken during a raid on her Abuja residence in 2015. Despite her acquittal on five counts of conspiracy to commit bribery, she continues to face scrutiny regarding corruption allegations and asset recovery efforts in both the UK and the US.
