NNPCL Executives Face Senate Over N210 Trillion Audit

On Wednesday, former executives of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), including Mele Kyari, Umar Ajia, and Bala Wunti, appeared before a Senate committee led by Senator Aliyu Wadada to address an audit report concerning N210 trillion from 2017 to 2023. The committee threatened to issue a warrant for the arrest of Bayo Ojulari, the current Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPCL, who failed to appear for the session scheduled for May 13, 2026.

Umar Ajia, the immediate past Chief Financial Officer of NNPCL, attended and presented a copy of the audit report, which contained queries regarding the unaccounted N210 trillion. Mele Kyari and Bala Wunti did not attend the session, but Kyari indicated he would be available for the next meeting.

The committee expressed dissatisfaction with a letter from Ojulari explaining his absence. Additionally, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the removal of Said Mohammed, the former CEO of NMDPRA, and nominated Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as his successor, pending Senate confirmation.
