Senate Sets Deadline for NNPCL to Account for N210 Trillion

The Nigerian Senate has mandated the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to account for N210 trillion by April 29, 2026. This directive follows an audit report covering the years 2017 to 2023.

The Senate's Public Accounts Committee, led by Chairman Aliyu Wadada, has summoned NNPCL's Group Chief Executive Officer Bayo Ojulari, along with former CEO Mele Kyari and other executives, including Umar Ajia and Dr. Bala Wunti, to appear before them.

The committee expressed dissatisfaction with the explanations provided by NNPCL regarding 19 queries raised, particularly concerning N103 trillion in liabilities. Wadada emphasized the need for a detailed breakdown of expenditures, including N107 trillion related to joint ventures and cash calls.

The Senate has given NNPCL an additional two weeks to comply with this directive, following previous failures to honor invitations. Abdul Ningi, a senator, urged the committee to invoke its powers to ensure NNPCL's compliance.
