Shehu Sani Links Northern Nigeria Terrorism to 2027 Elections

Shehu Sani, a former senator representing Kaduna Central, has expressed concern over the increasing wave of insecurity in Northern Nigeria, linking it to the political activities surrounding the 2027 general elections. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Sani noted a recurring pattern of violence during election periods, suggesting that the timing of these attacks cannot be dismissed as mere coincidence.

He emphasized that the rise in terrorist activities appears to coincide with the political calendar, indicating that certain actors may exploit insecurity to undermine public confidence in leadership. Sani did not name specific individuals in his statement but described the alleged use of insecurity for political advantage as a dangerous and unethical strategy.

His remarks align with concerns raised by the Chief of Defence Staff, who noted a similar spike in terrorist activities during politically sensitive periods. Sani warned that such tactics could have far-reaching consequences, potentially turning terrorism into a political tool.
