Troost-Ekong Stranded in Qatar Amid Gulf Tensions

William Troost-Ekong, a 32-year-old former captain of the Super Eagles, is currently stranded in Qatar amid escalating military tensions in the Middle East. Troost-Ekong recently joined Al Ahli SC and left Saudi Arabia in January.

However, due to the ongoing crisis, domestic football matches have been suspended, and flights have been temporarily halted, preventing him from leaving the country. The tensions in the Gulf have intensified following a retaliatory strike by Iran in response to operations by Israel and the United States.

Qatar's defense ministry has confirmed that its air defense system successfully intercepted missiles targeting Qatari territory as a precautionary security measure. Consequently, the temporary closure of Qatar's airspace has left foreign travel professionals, including Troost-Ekong, unable to depart amid the growing regional instability.
