Experts Urge Stronger Waste Management Regulations in Nigeria

During a recent event in Lagos, Dr. Olugbenga Adebola, a representative of the Waste Management Association of Nigeria, called on the government to establish robust policies to guarantee investment in the waste disposal sector.

He noted that the current policies are inconsistent, which hampers effective waste management. Adebola stressed the importance of private sector involvement in waste collection and management, advocating for a formalized approach to the informal waste sector.

He highlighted that effective waste collection is crucial to prevent illegal dumping and ensure proper waste management. Mr.

Okwi Iroegbu Chikezi, chairperson of Pewan, echoed these sentiments, advocating for increased investment in waste infrastructure, modern treatment facilities, and effective waste segregation campaigns. Both experts emphasized the need for partnerships between the government and private sector to enhance waste management practices in Nigeria.
