APC Campaign Council Challenges Peter Obi's Financial Claims

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council has urged Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), to retract his statements regarding his financial management as Anambra State Governor and seek forgiveness from the people of Anambra State. This call follows new claims about loans taken during Obi's tenure, contradicting his assertion that he left the state without a debt burden.

In a statement signed by spokesperson Dele Alake, the council accused Obi of misleading the public, stating that records from the Anambra State Government revealed he spent approximately USD 4.05 billion (N5.4 trillion) and contracted USD 123.77 million in external loans. The statement also noted that as of March 17, 2014, when Obi left office, there were eight external borrowings for various projects, and subsequent administrations, including that of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, continued to service these debts.

The APC described Obi as an "irredeemable liar" and called for his resignation from the 2027 presidential race.
