APC PCC Challenges Peter Obi on Anambra Governance Record

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), through spokesman Dele Alake, accused Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), of misrepresenting his tenure as Anambra governor. Alake stated that Obi's claims of exceptional fiscal prudence and leaving the state debt-free were false.

He cited disclosures from the Anambra State Government, which revealed that Obi spent approximately USD 4.05 billion (N5.4 trillion) during his eight years in office and incurred $123.77 million in external loans. As of March 17, 2014, when Obi left office, there were eight external borrowings for various projects, and subsequent administrations, including that of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, continued to service these debts.

Alake characterized Obi as an "irredeemable liar" and criticized his governance, noting failures to pay workers' salaries, including those of the Water Corporation, leading to protests. He referenced a memo from Obi's Chief of Staff, Chuks Ileogbunam, urging Obi to address unpaid salaries early in his tenure.
