FAAN to Implement Cashless Payments by February 2026

Mr. Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), reaffirmed the organization's commitment to implementing a cashless payment system at all airport payment points nationwide by February 28, 2026.

This announcement was made during a visit with executives from the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), who sought clarification on the decision to discontinue cash transactions at airports. Kuku emphasized that the transition to a cashless system aligns with global best practices in aviation management and is part of a broader federal government directive aimed at enhancing transparency and operational efficiency.

He referenced a treasury circular dated November 24, 2025, issued by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, mandating the cessation of cash transactions. Kuku highlighted the benefits of the cashless system, including reduced leakage, improved transaction traceability, faster service delivery, and enhanced public confidence in airport operations.
