Tinubu's Directive on Cashless Policy Aids Airport Recalibration

Mr. Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), expressed that President Bola Tinubu's directive to halt the implementation of the cashless policy across Nigerian airports is beneficial for recalibrating the process.

This decision came after commuters faced hardships during a three-day pilot phase at Lagos and Abuja airports, which resulted in severe traffic gridlock. Kuku assured that the President's request does not necessitate a complete suspension of the process but rather a reconsideration of its implementation.

He highlighted the need for a hybrid approach that allows for both cashless and traditional payment methods. Kuku noted that FAAN had achieved significant enrollment success, with hundreds of thousands of users registered, including 60,000 in the last three days.

He emphasized the importance of refining the process with input from the private sector to ensure effective payment solutions.
