FAAN Enhances Ebola Preparedness at Nigerian Airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has committed to enhancing Ebola preparedness at airports across Nigeria following a recent outbreak of the Ebola virus disease in Central Africa. In a statement issued on Wednesday, Henri Agbebir, the Director of Public Affairs at FAAN, indicated that the agency will work closely with the Port Health Services of Nigeria and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control to intensify surveillance and monitor passengers, particularly those arriving from high-risk regions.

Passengers will be screened for symptoms associated with Ebola, and any suspected cases will be promptly isolated and subjected to secondary health checks in line with established national and international health protocols. FAAN is also strengthening coordination with relevant stakeholders and enhancing staff sensitization to reinforce emergency response procedures.

As of now, there are no confirmed cases of Ebola in Nigeria, and FAAN remains vigilant and fully committed to safeguarding public health and maintaining safe airport operations. This statement follows the World Health Organization's declaration of an Ebola virus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda on May 17, 2026.
