Nigeria Implements Isolation for High-Risk Ebola Travelers

The Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered isolation protocols for high-risk travelers as part of heightened preparedness measures against Ebola. A statement from the Federal Ministry of Health on Tuesday indicated that travelers will undergo enhanced screening procedures, including temperature checks and health declarations.

Those identified as high-risk and exhibiting symptoms associated with Ebola viral hemorrhagic fever will be subject to secondary screening and isolation. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is tasked with strengthening nationwide surveillance and response systems.

However, during a plenary session on Tuesday, Amobi Godwin Ogah, a House of Representatives member, called on the federal government to provide adequate funding to the NCDC, which has reportedly received no operational funds for 2025 and no capital release against its approved 2026 budget. Despite these challenges, the NCDC has announced measures to enhance its preparedness, recalling Nigeria's successful containment of the 2014 Ebola outbreak.
