Nigeria's Attorney General Advocates for Stronger Laws to Combat Cybercrime

The Attorney General of Nigeria, Lateef Fagbemi, emphasized the urgency of enacting laws and empowering relevant institutions to tackle the rising menace of cybercrime in the country. Nigeria is ranked among the top ten countries targeted for cybercrimes, with an average of 4,388 cyberattacks weekly.

Fagbemi stressed the need for a robust legal framework and independent oversight to effectively prosecute cybercriminals. The government is reviewing the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015 and plans to introduce twin bills focusing on criminal justice provisions and cybersecurity governance.
