Kenyan Footballers Scammed in Indonesia, Left Homeless

Brian Andaj and Sundai Majimbo, two Kenyan professional footballers, traveled to Indonesia in December 2025, believing they had secured genuine contracts with a professional club through a fraudulent intermediary. Upon arrival, they discovered there was no club waiting for them, leaving them homeless and without income.

They sought help from the Indonesian Professional Football Association and the Kenya Football Welfare Association (KEFWA), which, along with the Kenyan embassy in Jakarta, provided urgent assistance. The embassy covered their daily living expenses and arranged temporary accommodation for the players during their three-week wait to return to Kenya.

KEFWA President James Situma emphasized the importance of cooperation among organizations to prevent such situations. The case highlights the growing threat of fake football agents targeting African players seeking opportunities abroad.

FIFPro has launched campaigns to raise awareness about these scams and urges players to verify intermediaries before signing contracts.
