Falana and Falz Protest Insecurity and Hardship in Lagos

On June 12, 2023, prominent lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, and his son, Afrobeat singer Folarin Falana, known as Falz, led a protest in Lagos, organized by civil society organizations and youth groups. The demonstration aimed to demand urgent action from the government to address the escalating insecurity and economic hardship in Nigeria.

The protest was held on Democracy Day, commemorating the election of late Chief MKO Abiola in 1993, which was annulled by military rule. Protesters gathered at Ikeja Bridge, carrying placards with messages such as "No democracy without security" and "End bad governance." Falana called for the immediate release of abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State, expressing concern for the welfare of captives.

The protest also aimed to highlight broader issues of injustice, insecurity, and poverty affecting Nigerians, particularly the alarming rate of kidnappings of school children in Oyo and Borno States. The demonstrators sought to draw attention to the challenges faced by ordinary citizens due to rising insecurity and economic difficulties.
