Falconets Return to Abuja After FIFA U20 World Cup Exit

Nigeria’s U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, returned to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Monday evening after their quarter-final elimination from the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup held in Poland. The team’s campaign concluded on Sunday when they suffered a narrow defeat to Colombia, conceding a stoppage-time goal in Łódź, which dashed their hopes of advancing to the semi-finals.

Upon their arrival, they were received by the Acting General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, along with other NFF management members, including the Director of Legal Services, Okey Obi; Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen; Director of Protocol, Barnabas Joro; Acting Director of Member Associations, Ali Abubakar Muhammad; and Deputy Director of Audit, Margaret Magai. Despite the disappointment of their quarter-final exit, the reception by the NFF management reflects the federation’s recognition of the players and officials for their efforts on the global stage.

The focus will now shift to reviewing the team’s performance and preparing for future international competitions.
