Falconets Triumph 2-0 Over Malawi in World Cup Qualifier

The Nigerian U-20 women's football team, known as the Falconets, achieved a significant 2-0 victory against Malawi in the first leg of the final round of qualifiers for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup on Saturday. The match, held in Nigeria, saw the Falconets dominate possession and create numerous chances, particularly in the first half.

Despite their efforts, they struggled to break the deadlock until just two minutes into the second half when an own goal by Maureen Kenneth put Nigeria ahead. The Falconets doubled their lead in the 57th minute through a precise pass from Faridat Abdulwahab, finished clinically by Ifeanyi.

The team maintained defensive discipline throughout the match, preventing Malawi from scoring. Following the victory, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced a financial reward of N1 million for the team, with Kunle Sonam, president of Remo Stars Football Academy, pledging an additional N500,000 for each goal scored.

The return leg is set for next Saturday at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, Malawi.
