Falconets Qualify for 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup

The Nigeria U-20 Women's National Team, known as the Falconets, secured their place in the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup scheduled to take place in Poland from September 5 to September 26. This achievement came despite a 2-1 defeat to Malawi in the second leg of the final qualifying fixture held at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

The Falconets advanced with a 3-2 aggregate score, having established a crucial first-leg advantage. Faith Chimzimu of Malawi opened the scoring in the ninth minute, raising hopes for a comeback for the home team.

Nigeria responded with a powerful effort from Ifeanyi, which rattled the woodwork. After Malawi took a 1-0 lead into halftime, Chimzimu scored again in the 56th minute, leveling the aggregate score temporarily.

However, a decisive goal from substitute Preciou Oscar in the 62nd minute restored Nigeria's aggregate advantage, ultimately securing their passage to the global tournament.
