Families Demand Justice for Detained Military Officers

Families of detained military officers facing trial for an alleged coup against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have publicly voiced their concerns regarding the treatment of their loved ones. During a press briefing in Abuja on Friday, Aishatu Yesufu, representing the families, accused authorities of failing to ensure fair and transparent due process.

The families claim that the detained officers have been subjected to inhumane treatment, including prolonged isolation and denial of access to legal counsel. They reported that despite repeated appeals, the officers have not received adequate medical care, with some suffering from serious health challenges.

Yesufu emphasized that the trial process has not been fair or open, questioning the credibility of the proceedings. Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju urged President Tinubu to uphold the rule of law and ensure that all citizens receive fair treatment under the law.

The families are calling for independent monitoring of the trial and access for medical professionals to examine the detainees.
