Families Protest Detained Officers at Justice Ministry

Families of detained military officers staged a peaceful protest at the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja, demanding open trials and the release of their loved ones. The protest was organized in response to allegations of a coup plot against President Bola Tinubu.

Chima's family, gathered at the ministry's entrance, chanting solidarity songs and displaying placards. They condemned the secretive nature of the ongoing court martial proceedings, which have faced criticism, particularly after journalists were barred from covering the bail proceedings of six suspects.

Abdullahi Kale, a protest leader, highlighted the difficulties faced by families since the arrests began eight months ago. Habibat Muhammad, carrying her year-old child, expressed the hardships her family has endured due to the detention.

The Ministry of Justice has yet to formally address the grievances raised by the families, who insist on transparency in the trial process, in line with constitutional provisions.
