Families Urge Action on Missing Persons in Adamawa State

On the occasion of the 2026 International Day of the Disappeared, families and stakeholders in Adamawa state called for heightened attention to the plight of missing persons in Nigeria, particularly due to the Boko Haram insurgency and other armed conflicts in the North East. Mr. Joshua Audu, the Adamawa State Secretary of the Missing Families Association, emphasized that this day serves as a reminder of the ongoing pain and unanswered questions faced by families of the missing.

He urged government and stakeholders to intensify efforts to identify missing persons and reconnect them with their families, asserting that every missing person matters. Emeline Montel, an ICRC delegate for the protection of family links, reported that the organization has registered over 500,000 missing individuals globally, with more than 3,000 families in Adamawa state alone affected.

She highlighted the ICRC's commitment to maintaining contact with the families of 17,000 missing persons and reiterated the significant societal impact of this issue.
