District Head Advocates for Enhanced Family Planning Funding

Umar Jabbi, the District Head, addressed journalists at his palace in Sokoto, advocating for family planning as a means to reduce maternal mortality and enhance social welfare. He stated that family planning should prioritize the quality of life for families rather than merely controlling population growth.

Jabbi commended the Sokoto State Government for its support, specifically noting that Governor Ahmed Aliyu allocated N30 million for family planning commodities in 2024 following stakeholder advocacy. He urged the governor to increase this funding to N150 million for the current year.

Jabbi highlighted that improved access to family planning services would help reduce maternal and infant mortality by allowing women to space their pregnancies adequately. He also praised the government's implementation of its nine-point Smart Agenda, particularly in health, and stressed that addressing insecurity should involve investments in children's education, healthcare, and welfare to prevent social vices.
