Fans Sue FIFA Over Excessive 2026 World Cup Ticket Prices

Football Supporters Europe (FSE) has filed a formal complaint against FIFA with the European Commission regarding excessive ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The complaint alleges that FIFA abuses its monopoly position, imposing unfair purchasing conditions and excessive ticket prices.

FSE highlighted that the cheapest ticket for the 2026 final is priced at $4,185, significantly higher than the cheapest ticket for the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar, which was $600. FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that ticket prices reflect high demand, a concept known as dynamic pricing, which lacks transparency and can lead to exorbitant costs.

The FSE criticized FIFA's ticket distribution strategy, noting that only 10% of tickets are reserved for fans of qualifying teams, and that a significant number of tickets are held back for resale, often at inflated prices. The lawsuit aims to address these issues ahead of the tournament.
