Toxic Pesticides in Nigerian Farming Raise Health Concerns - Report Reveals

A report by the Heinrich BÖLL Stiftung Foundation Nigeria reveals that many pesticides used in Nigerian farming contain toxic ingredients harmful to humans and animals. The survey found that 80% of pesticides used in the North Central states are highly toxic, requiring additional regulation.

The Small Scale Women Farmers Organisation of Nigeria and the Alliance for Action on Pesticides Nigeria support these findings. Shockingly, 40% of pesticides used in Nigeria are banned in the EU due to their high toxicity.

This poses a significant health risk and highlights the need for stricter regulations in the agricultural sector to ensure the production of safe and healthy food crops.
