Wike Critiques Kingibe on FCT Election Curfew Authority

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), responded sharply to Senator Ireti Kingibe's remarks about a curfew imposed in the FCT for the upcoming area council elections. Wike expressed disappointment, stating that he expected a senator to comprehend that a curfew cannot be enacted without the approval of President Bola Tinubu.

He emphasized that the curfew, which restricts human and vehicular movement from 8 PM on Friday to 6 PM on Saturday, was necessary to ensure a smooth electoral process. Wike made these comments during a special broadcast on Thursday, where he declared Friday a work-free day in the nation's capital to prepare for the council polls.

His remarks highlight the ongoing tensions regarding electoral governance and the authority of local versus federal officials in Nigeria.
