Senator Ireti Kingibe Critiques Wike's Curfew Ahead of Elections

Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has publicly criticized the movement restriction ordered by Wike, which is set to take effect from 8 PM on Friday until 6 AM on Saturday, coinciding with the area council elections. In an interview on Friday, Kingibe argued that the curfew unnecessarily restricts the freedoms of FCT residents and is unwarranted, especially as there have been no reported security breaches to justify such an action.

She emphasized that the preparations for the elections were already in place, with logistics and materials arriving on schedule. Kingibe expressed concern that the curfew limits democratic engagement and the ability of citizens to participate freely in the electoral process, stating that it infringes on their rights.

She called for a reconsideration of the decision, highlighting the importance of maintaining democratic freedoms in the lead-up to the elections.
