Wike Declares Work-Free Day for FCT Elections

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), announced a work-free day on Friday, February 20, 2026, to enable residents to participate in the area council elections scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026. In a special broadcast on Thursday, Wike urged residents to vote for their preferred candidates, emphasizing the importance of this election in shaping the future of the FCT.

He highlighted the need for orderly conduct and respect for the electoral process, calling on citizens to exercise their democratic rights responsibly. Additionally, Wike declared movement restrictions within the FCT from 8 PM on Friday to 6 PM on Saturday to ensure security during the elections.

He directed security agencies to ensure strict compliance with these measures, reinforcing the significance of the elections and the need for a mature and dignified electoral process.
