Nigeria's FEC Approves OHOPRS for Unified Humanitarian Aid
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the policy to unify humanitarian responses in Nigeria, known as the One Health and One Poverty Reduction Strategy (OHOPRS). The memorandum was presented by Dr Bernard M. Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
OHOPRS is a crucial element of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, designed to lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty. Historically, programs for vulnerable populations have operated in isolation, leading to duplication and gaps in assistance.
Dr Abimbola Fasanu, Senior Technical Adviser on Information Systems and Data Analysis at the Office of the Minister, clarified that OHOPRS is a system reset rather than a new program. It aims to integrate humanitarian assistance, social protection, and poverty reduction efforts.
The initiative was developed with input from stakeholders during a workshop at the UN House in Abuja in March 2026 and was unveiled on 26 August 2026 by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu. With FEC approval, the Ministry will collaborate with various entities to implement the framework.
